PLAYBETUSA’S NHL WEEK #4 PREDICTIONS, PICKS, AND ODDS

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS AT WASHINGTON CAPITALS

February 7th – 12:00 pm ET – Capital One Arena

The Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals have been two of the top teams in the Eastern division to start the 2020-21 NHL campaign, each having 15 points after 10 games. The Flyers have definitely been better one home ice than away from the Wells Fargo Center though and they will need to be at their best if they have any chance of toppling the Capitals.

This will be the first of eight encounters during the regular season between these two clubs, so we should still see feeling out process when the game begins. They last met inside the NHL bubble this past summer, with the Flyers picking up the 3-1 win in August.

We should be in for a fun contest on Sunday afternoon with plenty of firepower on display. The over should be a lock with both teams able to light the lamp. The home side will also be worth laying money on in what should prove to be a tight contest

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS AT NEW JERSEY DEVILS

February 9th – 6:00 pm ET – Prudential Center

The Pittsburgh Penguins came into the campaign expecting to compete for a Stanley Cup. With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin still leading the way, the Penguins are still a top team in the NHL.

They haven’t been poor to start the season, but they haven’t exactly been setting the league on fire either. They will be looking to send a message with a big win on Monday evening.

This will be the first encounter between these two clubs since last March, with the Penguins taking two of three games against the Devils last season.

New Jersey looks to be an improved team though, picking up impressive early-season wins against the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins. They could be in tough against a motivated Penguins’ side despite playing at the Prudential Center. Pittsburgh is the better hockey team and should be able to escape with two big points.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS AT MONTREAL CANADIENS

February 10th – 7:30 pm ET – Bell Centre

The rivalry between Canadian clubs has never been as intense as it is in 2021, with the creation of the all-Canadian North division as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The players or fans don’t seem to mind though, with some great early season action thus far.

On Wednesday, the division’s two hottest teams square off for the second time this season. Toronto and Montreal kicked off the campaign against each other, with the Maple Leafs picking up a narrow 5-4 victory at Scotiabank Arena. Montreal had won four straight games against the Maple Leafs last season though.

We should be in for an intense game when the puck drops, with no love lost between these two clubs. Both clubs have had great starts to the season, but Toronto has the better squad and should be able to prevail with two points on Wednesday. The over is also a great option.

BOSTON BRUINS AT NEW YORK RANGERS

February 10th – 7:00 pm ET – Madison Square Garden

The New York Rangers have already had their fair share of drama despite the season only being a few weeks old. They placed defenceman Tony DeAngelo on waivers after a controversial altercation with a teammate and are struggling to compete in the difficult East Division.

Boston on the other hand, are competing for top spot in the division and like their chances of concluding the campaign on top. They understand victories against teams like the Rangers are a must to do so though, and will be coming into Madison Square Garden ready to go.

This will be the first meeting between these two sides this season, but the Bruins have won their last four straight games against the Rangers dating back to March, 2019.

Boston will be too much for the home team to handle and should have no issues brushing the Rangers aside.

NEW JERSEY DEVILS AT PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

February 11th – 7:00 pm ET – Wells Fargo Center

The Philadelphia Flyers have been nearly unbeatable at the Wells Fargo Center and will be happy to be returning home after two straight games in Washington, especially to play a familiar foe.

These two clubs have already met twice this season, with the Flyers getting the best of New Jersey on both occasions. Those two games were played at the Prudential Center though and the Flyers still came away with 5-3 and 3-1 victories. Philadelphia has now won five of their last six games against New Jersey dating back to March, 2019.

Until the Devils prove they can compete with the Flyers, it is hard to put money on them – especially in Philadelphia. Take the Flyers to cruise to two points and pick up their third straight win against the Devils this season. The over may also be worth laying money on if the Flyers can get things going early.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS AT NEW YORK ISLANDERS

February 11th – 7:00 pm ET – Nassau Coliseum

The New York Islanders went all the way to the Eastern Conference final inside the NHL bubble in Toronto this past summer, but they have failed to continue their run of fine form to start the 2020-21 campaign. They’ve picked up losses against inferior competition like the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils and have struggled to keep up with the division’s elite in Philadelphia and Washington.

This will be the first time they play against the Pittsburgh Penguins since November, 2019, though and they will be looking to pick up a big victory on home ice.

Pittsburgh will be looking forward to taking on a team still trying to find themselves though, as they look to prove their early elimination inside the bubble was a fluke.

Expect to see plenty of action when these sides lock horns, with the over seeming like the play of the day. The Penguins are also worth laying money on in this one.
