PLAYBETUSA’S NHL WEEK #3 PREDICTIONS, PICKS, AND ODDS

CALGARY FLAMES AT WINNIPEG JETS

February 1st – 8:00 pm ET – MTS Centre

The Calgary Flames travel to Winnipeg to play the Jets in an important North Division contest on Monday evening. The Flames have not gotten off to a great start and will be looking to try and turn things around as soon as possible.

The Jets made headlines last week when they traded superstar winger Patrik Laine for center Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Columbus Blue Jackets. The move allowed Winnipeg to trade a player that wanted out, but the question remains whether they are a better hockey team for it.

Winnipeg has gotten off to a decent start to the season and will be looking to keep the momentum going on home ice against a team that they believe they are superior to.

This will be the first meeting between these two clubs this season, but Calgary did knock off the Jets in the NHL qualifying round in the bubble this past summer. Calgary won the series 3-1.

Look for the Jets to get the revenge on Monday evening, with a big win over the Flames on home ice.

NEW JERSEY DEVILS AT PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

February 2nd – 7:00 pm ET – PPG Paints Arena

The Pittsburgh Penguins are forced to take on the New Jersey Devils at PPG Paints Arena a night after playing the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. It will be their third game in four nights, but will still like their chances at home against the Devils.

Pittsburgh has gotten off to a strong start to the season and will be looking to play as many games as possible as they can while they are hot.

This will be the first of eight regular season games between these two clubs, but the Penguins did knock off the Devils in two of the three games they played against each other last season. Only one of those three games went over the total last year, and we should be in for another low scoring contest on Tuesday evening as well.

Go with the home team to pick up another two big points with the under also worth laying money on.

BOSTON BRUINS AT PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

February 3rd – 8:00 pm ET – Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia

The Boston Bruins have had the Philadelphia Flyers’ number so far this season, having beat them on both of their previous two encounters so far this year. The first game ended up going to a shoot-out, but the second game was a 6-1 blowout in favor of the Bruins.

Both those games were played at TD Garden though and this will be the first meeting in Philadelphia. Despite it still being early in the campaign, the Flyers know they cannot afford to lose a third straight game to the Bruins and will come out looking to prove the 6-1 beating they took was not a reflection of who they truly are.

This should be a tighter contest with these two teams now more familiar with each other as well. The play in this one has to be over. These two teams will be looking to light up the lamp as often as possible on Wednesday night.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS AT PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

January 30th – 7:00 pm ET – Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia

This will be the first of back-to-back meetings between these two sides as they play again at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday evening. This will also be the first of eight meetings between these two rivals this season.

The New York Islanders eliminated the Philadelphia Flyers in the playoffs last year, knocking them off in seven games. It was a tight series that saw two games go into overtime and one into double overtime. Expect to see another close contest on Saturday night between these two sides.

Philadelphia will be looking to prove a point after being ousted from the Eastern Conference semi-finals last season. They were the favorites against the Islanders, but could not get the job done when it ultimately mattered.

The Flyers will be fired up to play New York in their own building and should prevail with a crucial two points. Go with the home team to pick up the victory.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS AT EDMONTON OILERS

January 30th – 7:00 pm ET – Rogers Place

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers were always Canadian rivals, but the tensions between the two clubs have never been higher with them being placed in the newly re-aligned North Division.

We are in for an exciting hockey game whenever the likes of Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner and Leon Draisaitl are on the ice. This will already be the fifth contest of the season between these two clubs having met three times in Toronto already.

Edmonton won two of the first three games played in Toronto, with two of the three also going over the total. Edmonton and Toronto have two of the most talented squads and potent offences in the league so we should be in for plenty of goals on Saturday night as well.

This game could really go either way, but the over should be a lock between two clubs with plenty of firepowers.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS AT NEW YORK RANGERS

January 30th – 7:00 pm ET – Madison Square Garden

This will be third meeting of the young season between these two clubs, with the Penguins winning both games played in Pittsburgh in January. The Penguins knocked off the New York Rangers in a shootout at PPG Paints Arena, before taking them out 3-2 two nights later. They have now won five of their last seven games against the Rangers dating back to last season.

New York has struggled early in the campaign, dropping more points that they would have liked already. They are in for another tough task on Saturday against a team they have traditionally not done very well against.

The Penguins have won two of their last three games played at Madison Square Garden and will not be intimidated by the historic building. Go with the visitors to pick up their third consecutive win against the Rangers this season.

WINNER: PITTSBURGH
