Buffalo Bills disappointed with performance
The Buffalo Bills got off to a flying start to the season, going 4-0 for the first time since 2008. Quarterback Josh Allen was even being touted as a potential MVP candidate after he worked his magic against the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders.
They have lost two straight games since then though and made it clear after Monday night’s loss, they were not happy with how they played against the defending Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday evening.
“We weren’t good enough — I was not good enough. I’ve got to do a better job, it’s plain and simple,” Allen said following the game, via ESPN. “I didn’t play very good tonight. I know that. I understand that. This team can’t afford to have me play poorly.
Allen had his worst game of the season and was not the same player we saw during the Bills’ opening four contests. He had just 122 passing yards on the night going 14 of 27 with two touchdown passes.
“Early on just not being as accurate with the ball as I should have been,” said Allen as he shouldered the blame for the loss. “Making the right reads, making the right throws, and we turned it on a little too late there.”
Buffalo’s inability to stop the run game certainly didn’t help their cause at Bills’ Stadium either though, with the Chiefs’ running rampant on a battered defence.
“We felt we did well limiting them from taking it off the top, but the run game’s just another part of their game, and they executed it well,” Bills’ safety Micah Hyde said following the game.
“Frustrating, just because we feel like as a defence, we’ve got to find a way to get our offence back on the field,” Hyde continued. “We had to get a stop and we didn’t.”
The Bills came into the contest as five-point underdogs, but believe they have what it takes to compete with the best teams in the league. They remain in first place in the AFC East, but the lead is now down to just a single game as the Miami Dolphins have found their form having won three straight games.
Buffalo is on the pursuit to reach the playoffs for the second consecutive year and third time in four seasons under head coach Sean McDermott, after going through a 17-year playoff drought. They take on the winless New York Jets on Sunday afternoon for the second time this season looking to improve their overall record to 5-2.
Kansas City on the other hand, is now 5-1 and lead the AFC West by two games over the Las Vegas Raiders. They will take on the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field on Sunday afternoon and are hoping to have new acquisition Le’Veon Bell in the lineup for the first time. Bell was just signed as a free agent last week, after being released from the New York Jets and tweeted out “I can’t wait” during Monday night’s game.
